Tehran Coffee

I travelled to Iran in 2019 just before the Covid-19 pandemic hit to document the cafes of Tehran. Because there are no bars or clubs in the city, all social life revolves around cafes - they are where dates, business meetings and celebrations happen, and are therefore an incredibly important part of modern Iran.

In around ten days my friend and I visited 32 very different cafes and I shot thousands of images of every aspect of the cafe scene.

Tehran Coffee, a coffee table book describing the coffee industry in Iran. and featuring a lot of these cafes, will be published soon and I’ll post updates on its progress. Here are some shots from the series:
